Exploring the Causes of Loneliness from Indian Young Adults' Perspective
Why This Research?
Loneliness is often misunderstood, especially in a culturally diverse country like India. We sought to capture the real causes of loneliness, directly from young adults themselves.
Findings: Social comparison, academic pressure, and cultural expectations emerged as primary drivers of loneliness. Mental health stigma only compounded the problem, making young adults feel even more isolated.
Implications: There’s an urgent need for culturally sensitive mental health initiatives that address both the causes and consequences of loneliness. Breaking the silence on mental health could foster more supportive social environments.
How It’s Helpful: By understanding loneliness from a young adult’s perspective, we can better design interventions that provide genuine support, breaking the isolation cycle.
